During the Liberation War, as Brigade Major of Charlie Sector of Indian Army, General (then Major) Shankar Roychowdhury provided training and operational support to the Freedom Fighters of sectors 8 and 9. He devotedly provided highest cooperation to the Freedom Fighters during the nine months of Liberation War. For his great contribution, General Shankar Roychowdhury PVSM, ADC is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
