CITATION
During the Liberation War, Wing Commander Swaroop Krishna Kaul Maha Vir Chakra, PVSM, ADC was the Commander of 37 Squadron flying the Hawker Hunter aircraft. Since 3 December 1971, he carried out successful recce missions on Pakistan Army positions in Comilla, Sylhet, Syedpur and Dhaka areas, which were crucial for the Indian Army assault plans. He led his squadron in the attack of the Dacca airfield and the Governor House and also shot down two Pakistani F-86 Sabre jets. For exemplary leadership and courage, he was awarded Maha Vir Chakra by the Indian Government. Later, he was promoted to Air Chief Marshal and Chief of Air Staff and later Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee. For his great contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh, Wing Commander Swaroop Krishna Kaul Maha Vir Chakra, PVSM, ADC is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
