During the Liberation War, Shri Jagdish C Sharma Sena Medal provided training to the soldiers of 1 Mujib Battery Artillery of the Mukti Bahini and played an important role in preparing them for military operations. He actively took part in the battles of Kasba, Bhairab, Akhaura and Brahmanbaria and was awarded Sena Medal for his gallant actions. Three of his brothers also fought in the Liberation War as members of the Mitra Bahini and two of them received gallantry awards. Later, he joined the Indian Foreign Service and became Ambassador and Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs. In recognition of his remarkable contribution towards the Liberation War, Shri Jagdish C Sharma Sena Medal is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
