During the Liberation War, Begum Nargis Jahangir Rabad (Shammi) arranged public meetings and cultural programmes for the Bangladeshi refugees, mobilized support and created awareness amongst the Indian people for the cause of Bangladesh. For her great contribution towards the Liberation War, Begum Nargis Jahangir Rabad (Shammi) is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
