CITATION
During the Liberation War, the 300 bed Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospital of Agartala provided medical treatment to the wounded Freedom Fighters, Indian soldiers and refugees. With the influx of a large number of patients, it was expanded to a 1,000 bed hospital by installing tents. Doctors, nurses and other staff members of the hospital provided round-the-clock treatment to the patients. Acting President of Bangladesh, Syed Nazrul Islam, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, and the US Senator Edward Moore Kennedy appreciated the services of the hospital in treating the suffering humanity tirelessly. For its great contribution towards the Liberation War, the Gobind Ballabh Pant Hospital of Tripura is awarded Friends of' Liberation War Honour.
