During the Liberation War, Shri Hiranya Kumar Bhattacharyya was a senior police officer of 5 Assam Armed Police Training Center at Kahilipara. He was entrusted with the training of Mukti Bahini guerillas and commanders. He performed the task with utmost sincerity. Later, he was the security in charge and administrator of refugee camps at Halflong with two lacs refugees where he accomplished his task with efficiency. For his great contribution, Shri Hiranya Kumar Bhattacharyya is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
