During the nine months of Liberation War, veteran politician Shri Jyoti Basu made all out efforts to provide food, shelter and medical facilities to millions of refugees fleeing Bangladesh. He played a strong role in strengthening political unity and forming public opinion in support of the War of Liberation. For his great contribution, Shri Jyoti Basu is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous).
