CITATION
During the Liberation War, as an active member of Egypt Peace Council and Coordinating Secretary General of World Peace Council Dr Rifaat Mohamed El Said and their organizations supported the cause of Bangladesh. Amidst restrictions issued by the Egyptian Government, his organization issued statements, held seminars and conferences and collected thousands of signatures showing support to the suffering people of Bangladesh. He submitted the signature campaign report to the Human Rights Commission, which angered his Government, and he was arrested for his activities. As Coordinating Secretary General of World Peace Council, he visited a number of countries and raised public opinion in favour of the Bangladesh Liberation War and release of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from jail. For his great contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh, Dr Rifaat Mohamed El Said is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
