CITATION
During the Liberation War, a leftist politician and academic, E. A. Vidyasekera and some of his friends formed the Ceylon-Bangladesh Solidarity Committee. Many trade union leaders and teachers joined the organization. As the leader of the organization, he addressed public meetings and distributed leaflets which helped create public opinion in favour of Bangladesh. His organization made a strong appeal to the Government not to allow use of the Colombo Airport for transportation of Pakistani Military to Bangladesh. They also arranged demonstrations against holding of Pakistani cultural programmes in Sri Lanka. For his great contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh, E. A. Vidyasekera is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
