CITATION
Brigadier Sant Singh was the Commander of F J Sector of the Indian Army during the Liberation War. He was involved in training of large number of Freedom Fighters. With 6 Bihar Regiment, 83 BSF Battalion and 15 thousand Freedom Fighters, he captured Haluaghat and advanced towards Mymensingh. After capturing Mymensingh he advanced towards Dhaka via Modhupur and reached Dhaka on 16 December before the surrender of the Pakistan Army. He always led his troops from the front. He had a warm and cordial relationship with the Freedom Fighters and they addressed him as 'Babaji'. He was awarded Maha Vir Chakra for his gallant actions by the Indian Government. For his bravery and leadership, Brigadier (Retd) Sant Singh Maha Vir Chakra BAR, psc is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
