During the Liberation War, Professor Mira Dey and her husband Professor Jishnu Dey were active members of Calcutta University Bangladesh Shahayak Samity and other organizations formed to assist the refugees in the border areas. They also collected information on the war situation and worked as war correspondents. Besides, she helped the intellectuals, poets and writers from Bangladesh in various ways. Shrimati Mira Dey also served as a volunteer nurse in the field hospitals and medical camps set up for the treatment of Freedom Fighters and refugees. For her remarkable contribution towards the Liberation War, Shrimati Mira Dey is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
