During the Liberation War, Shri Sunil Gangopadhyay composed many songs and poems on the Liberation War, which helped create social awareness in favour of Bangladesh. He also composed patriotic songs on the female victims of the war reflecting a true picture of their sufferings. In recognition of his remarkable contribution towards the Liberation War, Shri Sunil Gangopadhyay is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous).
