CITATION
During the Liberation War, Advocate Zafar Malik was engaged as a defence counsel for those who were apprehended on charge of attempting to mobilize actions for stopping atrocities perpetrated in Bangladesh by Pakistani Military Junta. Along with 43 other intellectuals and political leaders, he signed a statement demanding release of Bangabandhu and termination of military offensive launched in Bangladesh. He played a key role in convincing progressive intellectuals to sign this statement. Continuing his campaign for Bangabandhu's release he formed a supportive group to press forward his demand. In consequence, he was subjected to humiliation and harassment. In recognition of his contribution made to mobilize public opinion in support of Bangladesh, Janab Zafar Malik is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
