CITATION
During the Liberation War, Chiman Singh Yadav operated with the naval commando groups of the Mukti Bahini. He took part in destroying Pakistani vessels at Mongla and Khulna. On 11 December 1971, he sailed with the Mukti Bahini vessel Padma and took part in a crucial operation. When the vessel Padma reached near Khulna, it came under heavy fire and was hit. Swimming ashore, the wounded Chiman noticed that two other injured members of Mukti Bahini were about to sink. Without hesitation, Chiman swam back to the injured fighters and brought them ashore. In the meantime, Pakistani soldiers surrounded the scene and took him prisoner. On his release after the war, for his gallant action under trying conditions, Chiman Singh Yadav was decorated with Maha Vir Chakra by the Indian Government. For his great contribution, Petty Officer Chiman Singh Yadav Maha Vir Chakra is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
