During the Liberation War, Shri Jyoti Prasad Saikia as the staff correspondent of the Times of India, provided regular reports on sufferings caused on the people of Bangladesh by the Pakistan Army and the success of Freedom Fighters. As a prolific writer and dramatist, he wrote a play titled ‘Titasher Osru', which was aired from Assam Radio and Akashbani. This became a popular progamme. Other than providing news, he used to assist foreign journalists by providing them with information on Liberation War. For his great contribution, Shri Jyoti Prasad Saikia is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
