During the Liberation War, Janab Waris Mir came to Bangladesh along with a group of students. Being shocked to witness the incidents of massacre and genocide and hear about the atrocities committed here, he wrote a series of articles in the Daily Jung. In consequence, he was subjected to criticism and humiliation in Pakistan. For justly upholding the cause of Bangladesh despite being in Pakistan, Janab Waris Mir is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous).
