During the Liberation War, Dr Arjun Sengupta closely advised and assisted Shri Durga Prasad Dhar, Chairman of Policy Planning Board of India and a key adviser to Shrimati Indira Gandhi on the Bangladesh situation. He played a significant role in mobilizing the academia, intelligentsia and the press to win their support towards the cause of Bangladesh. For his great contribution, Dr Arjun Sengupta is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous).
