During the Liberation War, Shrimati Utpala Misra played an important role in creating opinion for the cause of Bangladesh. She collected funds through public meetings which she donated to the refugee camps. Visiting refugee camps, she provided services to the sick and the wounded. Her house was used as a shelter for the Freedom Fighters. For her great contribution, Shrimati Utpala Misra is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
