During the Liberation War, sports organizer and physician of Agartala, Dr. Rupendra Chandra Bhowmik and his associates provided the sick and wounded refugees with first aid and carried them to the hospitals. They helped the patients by arranging blood donation programmes. They also collected life saving medicine for the hospitals. For his great contribution, Dr. Rupendra Chandra Bhowmik is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
