The renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Joseph Garst dedicated his life to serving the helpless and the downtrodden. He provided medical service to the sick and injured people of Bangladesh in the refugee camps during our Liberation War. In the post Liberation period, Dr. Joseph Garst set an unparallel example of humanitarian service in Bangladesh by giving medical service to the injured Freedom Fighters and by rehabilitating them. In 1999, the Government of Bangladesh granted him citizenship. For his humanitarian service to the people of Bangladesh, Dr. Joseph Garst is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous).
