CITATION
During the Liberation War, Shri Samar Sen, an eminent diplomat, served as Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations. During the sessions of General Assembly and other meetings, he apprised the member-states of the United Nations of the genocide being committed by the Pakistan Army in Bangladesh. He played an active role in raising the demand for the release of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Pakistani prison. When the Bangladesh delegation led by Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury arrived in the UN, he introduced them to the General Assembly participants and to the influential world leaders. For his great contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh, Shri Samar Sen is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour (Posthumous).
