During the Liberation War, Shri Pabitra Sarkar took the initiative to organize various meetings and cultural programmes along with Bangladeshis such as architect Dr Fazlur Rahman and Professor Shamsul Bari of Chicago University and raised funds for Bangladesh Government. The collected money was sent for purchase of materials like rubber boat, communication equipment, flipper etc. for the Freedom Fighters. For his remarkable contribution in the Liberation War, Shri Pabitra Sarkar is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
