During the Liberation War, Shri Jishnu Dey was a professor in Calcutta. He, along with his wife, went to the border areas and worked as volunteers to help the refugees. They were active members of Calcutta University Bangladesh Shahayak Samity and few other associations. In addition, they acted as war correspondents and reported to the Indian media on the war situation. For his remarkable support and contribution towards the Liberation War, Shri Jishnu Dey is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
