During the Liberation War, Begum Ashrafi and her colleagues collected relief materials and funds from Shillong area, and distributed those in the refugee camps of Meghalaya. She was also involved in distribution of materials in the Freedom Fighters' camps. By arranging cultural programmes and public meetings, she and her colleagues helped create public opinion in favour of Bangladesh. For her great contribution towards the Liberation War, Begum Ashrafi is awarded Friends of Liberation War Honour.
